…at which they toil under the sun?” So asks the author of Ecclesiastes in a very contemporary question. Unemployment is high, and many who have jobs are afraid of losing them. Recent polls indicate record levels of job dissatisfaction. On this Labor Day weekend we will reflect on some Biblical texts that deal with the nature of work and discuss the implications for our TGIF society. Is work the ‘sweat of your brow’ curse on fallen humanity or a blessing, a calling to emulate God?

Understanding Buddhism: Part I

This meeting will examine the origin of Buddhism, its founder and his life, and some terms used in Buddhism: the tricky concept of Nirvana, dharma, anatman, and The Four Noble Truths expounded by the Buddha. Along the way, as well as in subsequent meetings, we will compare some aspects of Buddhism to Christianity.
